Nevsehir
Nevsehir is fairy tale land that has been home to unique natural beauties. Millions of tourists flock to the city every year and the natural rock and volcanic tuff formations have made this region a very important place. Goreme Historical National Park, which was the home of many different nations throughout the history, is in the World Heritage List.
Every civilization that has been lived in this city, that its history dates back to B.C. 3000, brought its own culture with it and created a composite culture in the region. Nevsehir hosted many great civilizations like Hittite, Persian Kingdom, Assyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Empire. Nevsehir has been very attractive to all states, especially in the Urgup-Goreme region, thanks to the fairy chimneys.
The name of “Cappadocia” given to the area formed by Ihlara, Goreme, Urgup, Avanos, Uchisar, Derinkuyu and Kaymakli regions, means “Land of Beautiful Horses” in Persian language. The fairy chimneys in Cappadocia are composed of tuffs that are sprayed by the old volcanic mountains in the area.
Goreme, which was also used during the Byzantine period, ensured the protection of the people living there from external influences and played an important role in the protection and survival of Christianity. The monastery, church, chapel, cafeteria, monk cells, warehouses and wine-making places in Goreme are carved into the rocks and decorated with wall paintings.
The first and only underground museum in the world is the Guray Museum; Devrent Valley and Paşabag Valley of Priests are located in Avanos.
The highest peak of Cappadocia, Uchisar; offers the panoramic view of Avanos, Nevsehir, Goreme and Erciyes. Uchisar Castle is one of the places to visit in terms of history and scenery.
The Ihlara Valley, which looks immense, offers a very different experience to its visitors with its churches which their numbers are more than a hundred and nature surrounded by trees. The churches here have great importance in terms of Christianity and art history.
Nevsehir also attracts visitors with grape cultivation. It is popular not only with its natural beauties but also in food tourism with vineyard season and wine tasting activities.
This city, which reserved its own place in Anatolian culture, has dishes that use plenty of cereals and meat products.
